Medications to avoid before rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is one of the most complex cosmetic surgeries and requires a lot of care and attention before and after surgery. One of the questions that arises before rhinoplasty is whether it is necessary to take certain medications before doing so.

This is a really important question for anyone approaching rhinoplasty to ask. Yet probably even more important is “What medicines CAN’T I take before a rhinoplasty?”.

Medicines rhinoplasty patients might be taking fall into 3 categories:-

• Prescription medicines.
• Over the counter preparations.
• Vitamins and herbal extracts.

The answer is very easy. The need to take chemicals and supplements depends on your individual circumstances and can vary from person to person. To get the best results from rhinoplasty, you should consult your doctor before taking rhinoplasty. However, some medications are more common before rhinoplasty.

Common preoperative medications

Zinc and Vitamin C Pills: These supplements help boost the immune system, so recovery after surgery is faster. Zinc also specifically heals faster wounds.

Vitamin C has a tremendous effect on suture repair. Before rhinoplasty, this drug should be taken for better results, and after surgery, you can continue to receive this vitamin by eating fruits and vegetables. These two pills should be taken daily and after lunch.

Esomeprazole Capsule: This drug reduces gastric reflux and thus makes it easier for a person to tolerate anesthetics. This pill should be taken daily and fasting.

Vitamin K ampoules: As you know, vitamin K plays an important role in the process of blood coagulation, for this purpose, the body should be well supplied with this vitamin before surgery. This 10 mg ampoule should be injected one week to three days before surgery.

Alprazolam pills: This medicine is used to control anxiety before rhinoplasty. Usually use the night before surgery. If the doctor diagnoses severe anxiety, this medicine can be taken a week in advance.

Medications to avoid before rhinoplasty

Another question that arises is whether the use of drugs before rhinoplasty should also be controlled? To get results or prevent dangerous side effects such as bleeding, some medications should be stopped and some should be continued under a doctor’s supervision.

Medications that people may receive before rhinoplasty fall into three categories. For rhinoplasty, any of these medications can be potentially dangerous:

Prescription drugs: There are more precautions about prescription drugs and stopping their use must be done in consultation with a doctor. Before rhinoplasty, various tests are performed on you and your medical history is reviewed. In this regard, a list of prescription drugs that you are taking will be provided to your doctor and instructions will be issued to prevent any side effects. For example, any medication that thins the blood, such as anti-inflammatory drugs, can cause significant bleeding during and after rhinoplasty. In consultation with your surgeon, you should avoid taking these medications for at least two weeks before and after surgery. These include Sarita (aspirin), Mobic, and Voltaren.
